RIP Presley Chweneyagae: Life Imitates Art as ‘Cobrizi’ Fans Mourn Actor’s Sud den De@th

South Africans are mourning the tragic loss of award-winning actor Presley Chweneyagae, who passed away on Tuesday, 27 May 2025, at the age of 40. Known for his unforgettable role as Thuso “Cobra” Mokoena on the hit telenovela The River and its spin-off Cobrizi, Chweneyagae’s sudden death shocked the nation—especially as it eerily mirrored a recent scene in the show.

In a Cobrizi episode that aired just two days before his death, Chweneyagae’s character was seen solemnly standing at his parents’ graves, telling them he would be joining them soon. The moment, now circulating widely online, has left fans speechless, with many calling it a haunting case of art imitating life.
A Legendary Career Cut Short

Presley Chweneyagae’s career was marked by memorable performances and powerful portrayals. He rose to fame in 2005 with his breakout role in Tsotsi, which won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Over the years, he became a household name in South African entertainment, particularly through his work on The River and Cobrizi.

In a bittersweet twist, Chweneyagae had reportedly shared plans to retire from acting at the age of 40, making his passing all the more poignant.
A Connection Beyond the Screen

Entertainment commentator Jabulani MacDonald took to social media to reflect on Chweneyagae’s legacy and the coincidence surrounding the deaths of Chweneyagae and veteran actor Don Mlangeni Nawa, who played his father on The River. Nawa passed away on 16 April 2025, just weeks before Chweneyagae.

MacDonald posted a heartfelt tribute:
“Don Mlangeni Nawa and Presley Chweneyagae passed away within a short space of time. 💔😔 They also portrayed father and son on The River. This is a huge loss for the film and television industry.”
Fans React to Tragic Foreshadowing

The public’s emotional response has been overwhelming. Social media has been flooded with clips from the now-infamous Cobrizi episode, where Cobra says his goodbyes and kisses his parents’ tombstone. Viewers were stunned by the timing.

One user, @bautecarlosbau1, noted:
“On Sunday’s episode of Cobrizi, he said he wanted to join his parents in heaven 😭😭😭.”

Another fan, @alista_mapa, added:
“Shame, and in that episode, he sought to be reunited with Thato. Art imitates life—stranger than fiction.”
Controversies and Legacy

While Presley Chweneyagae was admired for his talent, he was not without controversy. In April 2023, he appeared on the reality show Papgeld for allegedly failing to pay R58,000 in child maintenance. Additionally, he was reportedly under investigation for alleged involvement in laundering R15 million through his foundation, a case that drew criticism for the slow pace of justice.

Despite the scandals, fans and fellow actors remember Chweneyagae for his contributions to South African storytelling and his ability to embody complex characters with depth and authenticity.
Final Farewell

Presley Chweneyagae’s untimely death has left an indelible mark on the South African entertainment industry. As fans continue to share tributes and memories, one thing is certain—his legacy will live on through the characters he brought to life and the stories he helped tell.

Musa Khawula Sparks Outrage with Disrespectful Comments About Late Actor Presley Chweneyagae

Controversial entertainment blogger Musa Khawula has once again found himself in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. This time, Khawula is facing widespread backlash after launching a shocking and disrespectful tirade online, targeting the late South African actor Presley Chweneyagae. Known and beloved for his iconic role in the Oscar-winning film Tsotsi, Chweneyagae passed away recently, and his memory is still fresh in the minds of fans and industry peers.

In a series of inflammatory social media posts, Khawula made several disparaging remarks about Chweneyagae, which many have condemned as deeply inappropriate and insensitive. His comments have stirred a wave of criticism across social platforms, with fans, celebrities, and fellow entertainers calling him out for what they view as a blatant lack of respect for the deceased.

The reaction from the public has been swift and fierce. Many users have taken to social media to express their disgust, urging Khawula to show compassion and decency, especially during a time of mourning. Some are calling for him to be held accountable, arguing that online personalities and influencers must be more responsible with their words, particularly when discussing the dead.

Numerous fans have expressed heartbreak over the incident, citing Chweneyagae’s contributions to South African cinema as a source of national pride. Tsotsi, which won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2006, brought international attention to South African storytelling and showcased Chweneyagae’s talent to the world. His legacy is one that many feel should be honored, not belittled.

Public figures have also joined the chorus of criticism, condemning Khawula’s remarks as distasteful and unnecessary. While some argue that ignoring such behavior might be the best response, others believe that silence only allows such toxic commentary to thrive unchecked. The incident has reignited a broader conversation about ethics in entertainment journalism and the growing need for empathy in the age of viral commentary.

At this point, the motive behind Musa Khawula’s outburst remains unclear. Some speculate it could be a publicity stunt aimed at attracting attention, while others believe it reflects a deeper disregard for respectful discourse. Regardless of the reason, the impact has been undeniable.

As of now, the family of Presley Chweneyagae has not released an official statement addressing the situation. Supporters continue to rally around the late actor’s memory, sharing tributes and expressing their sorrow at both his passing and the recent controversy.

The uproar surrounding Khawula’s comments serves as a reminder of the powerful influence words can have—especially when aimed at someone who can no longer defend themselves. For many, it’s a call to reaffirm the values of dignity, empathy, and respect in the public domain.

Naledi Aphiwe Sp@rks Laughter With Sharp Clapback to Zimbabwean Fan: “Minister of Deportation”

South African songstress Naledi Aphiwe recently stirred both amusement and controversy online after issuing a cheeky response to a fan from Zimbabwe, leaving social media users in stitches.

The Metro FM award-winning singer, known for her soulful voice and lively personality, found herself trending for a rather unexpected reason. It all began when a Zimbabwean fan named Consance Muzenda politely asked the Romeo and Juliet hitmaker to visit Zimbabwe. The fan’s harmless request took a surprising turn when Naledi responded with:
“You guys can go there and wait for me.”

While the comment was clearly delivered in jest, its tone sparked a whirlwind of reactions. Many South Africans found the remark hilarious, dubbing Naledi the “Minister of Deportation” for her savage wit. Her off-the-cuff humour quickly went viral, with fans comparing her to the late kwaito star Mampintsha, who was known for his unfiltered and outrageous comments.

Social media exploded with reactions. Some users couldn’t get over how casually brutal the comment was:

@Fulufhelo_09 commented: “Minister of deportation.”

@Thabo_Tshisi joked: “Please give her a job at Home Affairs.”
@CoolyNicey quipped: “This 2K generation is insane. But she’s right though.”
@Lofty_K admitted: “This took me tf out.”

Others debated whether Naledi had misunderstood the fan, pointing out that the fan had said “come” to Zimbabwe, not “go,” which implied the fan wasn’t necessarily in South Africa. But this technicality didn’t stop the meme train from rolling.

Despite some questioning the tone, many celebrated her confidence and quick wit, praising her for not holding back and embracing her comedic side.“Lol, yeah, he never loved me. Maybe there was something he was looking to gain, and he got it. Good for him.”

This statement came after her viral post about infidelity, where she said even if you built a man a house in the clouds, he’d still find a way to cheat.
Mawelele Previews Heartbreak Song

Meanwhile, Mawelele has been teasing a new heartbreak track, further fueling speculation about the status of their relationship. Some fans believe the drama might be part of a publicity stunt, while others are convinced the breakup is real.

Whatever the truth, both artists continue to dominate the headlines — whether for their music or their messy personal lives.

Naledi Aphiwe may be known for her vocals, but it’s her sense of humour and unapologetic personality that’s now earning her headlines and an unexpected new title — the Minister of Deportation.

Gash1 and Thato Turn Down Reality TV Offer to Protect Their Peace

Former Big Brother Mzansi season 3 contestants and fan-favourite couple Gashwan “Gash1” and Thato Mthombeni have revealed they were offered a reality TV show — but chose to walk away from the opportunity.

The couple, who met on the popular reality competition and tied the knot just six months after making their relationship official, opened up in a recent YouTube video about why they declined the offer, even though their fans have been eager to see them back on screens.

While many would jump at the chance to showcase their lives on television, Thato made it clear that her decision came from a place of self-protection and prioritising her loved ones.

“I don’t want to do reality TV because I say no first as an individual,” Thato said. “I don’t want to do it because there’s no reality TV I’ve watched where people have brought forth their romantic relations, siblings [or] whatever and come out better after that. There isn’t a one. Those things destroy. I’m not even talking about the comments, the audience or the fans yet.”

She added that no amount of money could convince her to sacrifice her peace and stability. “I don’t care how much money you are putting down. I am not going to put myself in a situation for something to break me down. That is not going to happen. Peace at all costs. I can lose millions. It is detrimental to everyone around you,” she explained.

Thato is currently balancing a busy life — she’s an actress, a weekend radio host on Metro FM alongside the Naked DJ, and also works in the food industry. Gash1, meanwhile, focuses on modelling and running his business ventures.

Gash1 also explained that privacy is something he values highly, and he’s cautious about how his public image is portrayed.

“There are things I need to refrain from saying because it will taint the brand itself. You always need to uphold a good image no matter how you are feeling,” he said.

Despite the excitement from fans who would love to watch their journey on-screen, the couple has chosen peace, privacy, and personal growth over the spotlight.

Nonku Williams’ Memoir Unapologetically Me Is Finally Out and Available to Order
A post shared by Nonku Williams (@nonku_williams)

This deeply personal book is a raw and honest look into Nonku’s life beyond what viewers see on television. Speaking previously to TshisaLIVE, Nonku shared her reasons for writing the book and what she hopes readers will take from it.

“I was inspired to write Unapologetically Me to share the journey behind the person people see on screen — a journey of survival, resilience and faith. Life hasn’t been easy, but through every challenge I’ve found strength. I hope readers see they’re not alone in their struggles, and that regardless of where they come from or what they’ve faced, they have the power to rise, heal and rebuild,” she said.

Writing the book wasn’t easy. It took Nonku over a year to complete the first volume, as she wanted to be truthful and give each part of her life the attention it deserved. She worked closely with an editor, but every word in the book reflects her personal experiences.

“The writing process was intense, emotional and rewarding. I did work with an editor who helped me shape my experiences into a cohesive story, but every word comes from my heart. Together, we ensured my voice, my truth, came through authentically,” she explained.

Back in October 2024, Nonku teased the release of her book on social media, sharing what it truly meant to her.

“From the spotlight of reality TV to the quiet battles fought behind closed doors, Unapologetically Me is my own raw and inspiring story of my life as a woman the world thought they knew. But beyond the headlines and the drama, lies a story of survival, resilience, and a relentless pursuit of self-discovery. Are you ready for the launch of Unapologetically Me? Coming soon,” she posted.

Now that the wait is over, fans of Nonku Williams and lovers of inspiring life stories can finally
